Setting Goals and Problem Solving: How to do a little and keep ahead
There is no such thing as a perfect day, but there can be a good day.
The inspiration and motivation for this article came to me as I am really feeling the pressures of adding this business to my life. You see this business is not just a business but it's a goal I’ve set for myself and put on my plate, it’s an area of my life where I’ve decided every day I have to take a little bit of action. So it got me thinking…
How do we balance our goals or all the things on ourplate?
So that we feel good, are making progress and also enjoy life at the same time. After all, life is meant to be enjoyed, not just setting goals and chasing, and chasing. Being Realistic and doing the little things over a short period of time.
Maybe you want to get in better shape (a fitness goal is probably something everyone should have, unless you look like the Rock). Maybe you don’t have the time now to go to the gym for 90 minutes, but if it is truly important you’ll set the time and go.
Go for that run, jog, walk, or Peloton workout for thirty minutes.
Decide when, exactly when…for example not 5ish, or around 530am, decide I’m waking up at 5am, so I can be in the gym from 05:30 am to 6am, or 6:30.
Is it perfect? No, is it a start? Yes! Is it consistency, it can be, is it discipline yes.
Personal example:
If I could I’d be in the gym for 90 minutes a day, however adding this business means it’s only an hour for me at this point, that’s o.k. I’ve decided an action (keyword) that is equally as important as the Stair-master and weights is blogging.
But being in the gym for an hour, still following my meal plan, and doing it consistently, keeps me in shape, and even on track.
Here’s the important thing to remember, the win is doing the little things, and a little bit of the little things everyday.
Here’s the simple fact, I might not publish one blog a day, but maybe I publish one a week. In this case, I’m making progress, because I’m saying this is how I’m adjusting my life to do the things daily that are important to me.
So let’s pay it forward:
What are the things on your plate? Or really as I like to say, what’s on your stove top? Trying to lose 10, or 20 pounds? Trying to save money for a vacation, Trying to create or work on a business? Trying to have fun dating, or improve your marriage?
Decide for yourself what’s the littlest thing you can do and go do it, each day, make the time, 15 minutes, or go crazy and do 30 minutes.
5am to 530am 30 minutes of cardio
05:30 am to 5:45 am: Swipe on a dating app, or pick out a fun place to take your wife or girlfriend to.
5:45am to 6:00 am, study for a test, certification, a course for a business. Then hop in the shower and get your butt to work.
Guy’s if you are married…
when you get home and not happy with your marriage, as you can be, be the leader, turn it around, after dinner no matter what I’m helping my wife with the dishes or going to help her cook (7pm to 8pm), or when I walk in I’m going to look my wife in the eye give her a kiss and just ask her how her day was…almost like she’s the only thing in the room.
Guy’s if you are single and dating: After work from x time to x time I’m going to go out have a drink and socialize, I’m going to make it a point to enjoy myself.
Guy’s if you are in a relationship: I’m going to call my girl, (if necessary, and say hey babe, wanna take you out soon, when are you free).
So What’s the point of this article?
Simple, A lot of time in life our unhappiness, discontent, or frustration, comes from having the things on our plate not clearly defined and also unregulated.
We know what we want, we also are not content and are frustrated that what we want is not in the immediate future or here now, so we look for a quick fix.
In life the lights are never all green at the same time, however you’re driving the car, just don’t drive it too fast or you’ll crash it, go slow and touch all those goals.
Maybe what you want (example x amount of money saved for a vacation), is not possible in three months, but maybe it’s possible in six months or a year, isn’t that better than suffering wanting it and being frustrated it isn’t.
Maybe in those three months you can’t lose 20 pounds, but you can lose ten, while saving up that money for that vacation and being 25% there.
Remember life is about pursuing your dreams, reaching your goals and enjoying it at the same time. Look at that plate, and figure out what is the easiest and littlest thing I can do every day (for now), to feel like I’m making progress.
Guy’s I love working with people to figure this stuff out, if this article hits home click on that contact me tab and book a free consultation.
