Dating Profile Your First Prompt

In the same way you might be tempted to just put your best-looking pictures on a dating profile, it can be just as tempting to just think of a few prompts and call it a day. In my opinion, this is the wrong approach.

Prompts do matter, and they matter a lot. A good prompt will make a girl smile and even establish one or two things you have in common with the girl looking at your profile.

If you have one or two things in common, chances are you have more things in common.

When a girl sees you have those couple of things in common, she is more likely to match or like your profile. More importantly, she is going to feel something. She is going to feel that brief moment of, “Oh crap, he likes that too.”

This does not mean you should write down random things you think you’ll have in common with girls, so you get more matches. What it does mean is you should be yourself, and it will pay off , especially if you do go out with her.

It also means you are creating attraction in that brief moment she sees you have those one or two things in common. This will make it more likely to match or like your profile.

Writing a prompt boil down to two parts.

The first part focuses on how the prompt is written. The second part is about what is written. How it’s written refers to how the prompt sounds. You want the prompt to sound smooth, fun, and even punchy.

I learned this from Todd V Dating. He described a good prompt sounding like a fun punchline. It’s simple and to the point, not a long sentence or thought.

The second part to making a good prompt is what it says. We already established a good dating profile is rooted in taking pictures with the people you love, doing the things you love, and going to the places you love. A good prompt is no different.

If you love baseball, write it in your prompt. If you love sports write it in your prompt.

If you love a fun vacation, write it down. If you love fancy cocktails write it down. The only difference is that instead of showing it in a picture you are going to say it in a prompt.

Here’s what I suggest

Write down all the things you love. Whether it's in a computer document, or handwritten. Write down who you love, what you love, and the things you love.

If you love Football on a Sunday afternoon, say it, “I love football,” If you love fun vacations, write it, “I love traveling.”

Don’t worry about writing the prompt for now, just write down the people, places, and things you love first.

Not each prompt is going to say exactly all of the things you love.

But each prompt will have a piece of you in it. Together we’ll come up with the prompts that fit you, based on who you are and what you love. Then we just say it in a fun and punchy way.

If you are reading a blog post like this I’m sure you know how dating sites and apps work. Where you select the prompt then write in your answer.

Before selecting a prompt I want you to first write out your answers, then you can select the dating site prompt that fits best.

For example, my first prompt was a reply to the dating app site prompt, “You Should Leave a Comment if” to which my answer was, “You Like Therapists, Brunch and Mimosas.” It read like this.

Dating Site “You Should leave a comment if”

Answer: “You Like Therapists, Brunch and Mimosas.”

Why this prompt worked great

To be real, I did get this prompt and answer from the dating app cohort, and it worked great, I just didn’t know why yet.

It worked great because I kept it said something about who I was and what I loved, and that is being a therapist. It also described a fun date, brunch and mimosas.

Here’s the truth: I don’t love mimosas and I don’t love brunch, but I do like them, not just enough to write them in a dating profile.

What I realized happened after, was these two aspects of it, describing a fun date for a girl. They are also things girls generally do like. Seeing a prompt that said who I was, along with a fun date, and things they like, made this prompt work.

Here’s how to make this first prompt and your answer work for you.

I want you to describe your profession, or a value you have, along with the things you love, preferably referencing food and drink (otherwise known as a date). It might sound something like this.

Dating Site Prompt: “You should leave a comment if.”

Answer #1: You Like Good Men, Spicy Margs and Crunchy Tacos.

Answer #2: “You like Therapists, shared plates and fruity drinks”

Answer #3: “You like A Good Workout, Healthy Snack, Savory Meal.

Each of these say something about me and what I love, and what’s important to me, whether it’s working out, being a gentleman, or just a love for a fruity cocktail.

How would your prompt sound? It might sound like some examples below.

Prompt: You should leave a comment if

Answer: “You Like Hard workers, crunchy snacks, and tasty cocktails.”

**Notice in this one I took out a profession and swapped it out for a value you have for yourself. Why? In case you don’t feel like writing it in a prompt.

Prompt: You Should Leave a Comment If

Answer: “You like English Teachers, Coffee Creamer, and Crispy bacon

You can either opt for something even shorty and punchier and say…

Answer: “Teachers, Creamer, and Bacon.”

**Notice I wrote the same thing in essentially two different ways.

In the first prompt, “English Teachers, Coffee Creamer, and Crispy Bacon, I am a little more focused on a more detialed prompt which says who you might be.

In the second prompt, Teachers, Creamer, and Bacon, I am more focused on the punchiness, and compactness of it.

I want you to take this prompt and write who you are in a fun and punchy way.

The best way to do this is to incorporate your career, or a value you have, followed by your favorite food and drink. Feel free to write or type a few out, and see what you think sounds the best, and works best for you.

Once you select your answer to the prompt, and I want you to ask yourself one more question

Why does it work best? Is it because the prompt is detailed and conveys who you are, and what you love? Is it because it’s smooth and reads well.?

Or best-case scenario, does it incorporate both elements? By asking yourself why you picked this prompt, you are assuring yourself you selected a prompt that not just sounds good for you but sounds good to the girl reading it.

Your ability to write a prompt that reads well and is clear in communication gives the girl a better experience when looking at your profile. She feels it’s easy to read and communicates the message clearly.

If your prompt is a run-on sentence, or drawn out then, she is going to be thinking and feeling, “What?” Girls like clear communication, even if it is in a dating prompt.

Speak with conviction about who you are, what you love, and write it down.

Then be sure to select the prompt that goes best with that statement. You can use the template (career, food, and drink), I used, or you can play around with a few on your own. Just be sure to do it in a fun and punchy way.

Prompt Number One: Who you are and what you love.
