Prompt Number Three: Your Opinion Prompt

The focus on this blog post will be the opinion prompt, and how it helps create interest in a dating profile.

When I enrolled in a dating app cohort, I was given a random prompt by our coach which read as follows, …

Dating app Prompt: “My most controversial opinion is.”

Answer: “Casamigos isn’t real tequila.”

Despite me not really having an opinion on Casamigos, this prompt did perform really well.

It received several likes and comments, in which several girls commented on how they agree. I realized after the girls were reacting to not just the prompt, but their own opinion.

While I didn’t really care about Casamigos at all, and actually liked it, from the likes and comments it got, it clearly was a good prompt.

Opinion prompts work well because it is more than your opinion. It is also a chance for her to think about her opinion, and how she feels about the subject or statement you said.

She has a chance to agree, disagree, and/or say to herself, “Yeah he’s totally right,” or “I never thought of that.”

This causes her to just think and feel for a brief moment a little bit extra about you and your profile.

This extra thought about your opinion, leads to a little more investment in your profile (even if it is for just a second or two), which is increasing her interest in the profile.

The more her interest is increased, the more likely you are to get a match, a like or comment.

If you do choose the opinion prompt, you want the statement to be lighthearted, comical, and even a little bantery.

Don’t make it about religion, or politics, (unless that is something you really value for your dating life).

Try not to repeat things previously mentioned or seen in your profile.

Another thing to consider when deciding what opinion to write is if it has already been spoken about in a previous prompt or seen in a profile picture.

For example, if I love cruises, I already wrote about that in my second prompt. Therefore, I wouldn’t want this third prompt to give an opinion about cruises.

Likewise, if I already mentioned a relationship or dating subject, I wouldn’t want to mention it in the third prompt.

It is more likely to come across as a random fact you are repeating about yourself than something new she is finding about you.

Remember, prompts are also used to increase variety. The more variety you have in your profile, the more things in common you potentially have.

An example of how it would appear redundant

Prompt Number Two: My love language is

Answer: Carnival or Norwegian?

Prompt number Three: My most Controversial Opinion is

Answer: Cruises are the best vacation.

All I did hear is repeat what the girl already knew, which is that I like cruises. Don’t do it! Add variety.

The more Variety the Better.

The more variety you have in your profile, the greater the chance is that you will have more things in common with her.

The more things in common you have, the more likely it is your profile will be matched with, or liked.

Prompts are a chance to say who you are and what you love, stack the deck in your favor by saying more things about who you are and what you love, not repeating elements of them.

What are the best opinion prompts?

The best opinion prompts are opinions that you have about things, or people, and someone else will likely have an opinion of their own about it.

Like I said it before, it should be something humorous, innocent, and lighthearted, not serious. Otherwise, you will come across as someone who is not fun.

A good opinion prompt when done right gives her a chance (if she likes the profile), to comment on it too.

I included some examples below based on some opinions I have of my own, that I think would make for a good opinion prompt.

They are based on some things I think and feel, so feel free to take these, and think about what you would say if you were giving an opinion on it. They read as follows…

Some good opinion prompts would be

Prompt: My most controversial opinion is

Answer #1: Nobody cares about Travis and Taylor

Answer #2: (Insert Actor) is overrated

Answer #3: Reality TV is good TV

Answer #4: This (insert pro sports team) will never win again.

Opinion prompts speak to who you are, and what you think, just in a non-obnoxious way.

While the opinions and answers above speak to who I am as a person, you want your answers to speak to who you are as a person, and something you love, or even don’t.

By stating your opinion, the girl is likely to think about her own opinion. She’ll not just think about her own opinion, she’ll have a brief reaction.

If she likes your profile, this reaction is her chance to not just like or match, but to also comment.

Answer Number One

Let’s be honest. Answer number one: “Nobody Cares about Travis and Taylor,” is an opinion one way or another most people have.

Either you love football, love that celebrity, or are over everyone talking about it. When she reads this, she’ll think about her own opinion, while reacting to yours at the same time.

Whether she agrees or disagrees, you have a little more investment and interest in you and your profile from this.

Answer Number Two:

Answer number two is saying a certain actor is overrated. I certainly have my own list, but that’s not important.

When you say it, she is going to agree, disagree, or not have an opinion at all. If she has no opinion, that is totally fine.

It just means she is likely to not comment on it, or think about it, as it just isn’t something she cared enough about to have an opinion on, that’s okay.

Nothing bad happened, you still have a great profile, she just didn’t react or think about this prompt.

Your opinion shouldn’t put others down.

Don’t give an opinion that puts others down.

It’s one thing to call an actor or movie overrated, or give a celebrity opinion, it is quite another to generalize people, or be negative about a group or person, even if it is a celebrity.

She is more likely to see you as negative and just opinionated or obnoxious.

There is a right way and a wrong way to say your opinion. You want it to come across more as "here's what I think,”  not "this person is the worst, " or “let me tell you.”

Don’t be obnoxious, rude, or put others down with your opinion, be fun and playful with it.

What if she disagrees with your opinion?

That is perfectly okay. The point of this is not to create attraction by writing an opinion she’ll agree with.

It’s to spark a brief moment of fun banter.

It’s to get a little, “You know he’s right,” or that’s true, or “what’s he talking about, I love that brand.”

You want a brief reaction to your opinion, and thought or feeling about her own opinion, that’s it.

The opinion prompt causes her to think about her own opinion.

When you choose an opinion prompt, it is a chance and brief moment (or really a few seconds) for her to think about her own opinion.

This works in your favor.

The opinion prompt causes her to think and feel a reaction, for just a second or two longer than other prompts.

How it works versus other prompts.

For example, when you write a prompt that says you love brunch and mimosa’s she might go, “I like that too,” but she won’t be thinking about her favorite brunch places, or favorite appetizers.

She will simply think and feel in a brief second that you have something in common, or that sounds fun. If you write about an ideal relationship with shared values, she might go, “he’s right, or, “that sounds good.”

She is not going to have that extra reaction of thinking about her own opinion and reacting to your opinion. That little extra thought, emotion, she engages with your profile.

The opinion prompt, when done right, will do this more than the other prompts. Engaging in your profile leads to investment, which leads to a match/like.

What the girl sees and feels?

If you consider the whole experience of the girl, from her looking at your pictures, and your prompts, she is seeing and reading things that work in your favor for her interest.

She looks at a profile with pictures that you not just look your best in, but are wearing nice clothes, having fun, doing interesting things (the steakhouse, the rooftop, the travel).

As she is scrolling down she reads a prompt that describes a fun date, and sees you like some of the things she does. She smiles when she hears your thoughts on an ideal relationship.

Finally, almost like a curveball you go from a date prompt to a relationship prompt, to a, “Oh yeah, that celebrity is overrated,” “Or “reality tv is good tv.” She might chuckle or smile a little.

Think about her own opinion, and react to yours. You are creating a good viewing experience, and even emotional experience when she sees your profile.

They might not strong emotions, but she is experiencing them, even just looking at your profile.

When she is on a dating app, she is experiencing emotions.

They might not be strong emotions, but they are emotions. Some might be frustrated, while other emotions might be fun, like a good profile she sees or funny message she got.

Your opinion prompt is not just another prompt, it’s another prompt for your profile. Your profile is what gives her a good experience on the dating app or not.

Either she feels good and likes your profile with the pictures, and prompts, or she doesn’t.

The opinion prompt is a good vehicle to raise her interest and spike her emotion even if it is just a little bit, and only for a few seconds.

This is why the opinion prompts work so well.

It is another why way of interest being created in your dating profile

Prompt Number three and choice number one for your profile.

Prompt: My most controversial Opinion is…

Answer: Your opinion!
