How to calm your emotions, change your thoughts and take action!
What the hell are you talking about
Let’s keep it real, we all have moments where we have unpleasant emotions, stressful situations, that really raise our emotions, and even physical sensations.
Imagine being able to switch that emotion to the pleasant one, well I’m here to say it’s possible.
First a personal example:
I’ve made it a real point to want to help men, who at times can feel insecure in their relationship or dating life…
myself included, as I’ve been there and done that. What’s that emotion we feel when our girl is silent, it’s anxiety, it’s worry.
Behind those emotions are thoughts, should I reach out, did I do something, is she expecting me to reach out, is she upset, what do I do.
In a perfect world, we’d flip the emotion to the opposite.
If we’re feeling anxious about a date, or a girl not calling us back, or our girl going out, what’s the complete opposite?
Calm, indifferent. What would we think if we felt that emotion? Sweet, have fun tonight, or Alrighty got some space!
So why don’t we? Because we truly fear we are not enough, or even not worthy.
That’s something I learned from Corey Wayne, who’s worked to help me a lot at that point in my life.
So, if we switched our emotion what would we think
But if we took that moment, recognized that emotion, and flipped our anxiety to a calm, what would we think, sweet she’s out and I have some time and space.”
So, what might we say?
Sweet baby, Have a great time I’ll catch you later. Now the first part of my blog is my story, but we all have our triggers that get to our unpleasant emotions, whether it’s school, dating, a marriage, or a relationship.
My Goal here is simply to share my story, connect to you…and hear or connect your story.
Example: Feeling anxious about a test your studying for
Opposite Emotion: Calm, Indifferent,
What would you think: I got this, let me hit the books here.
Example Dating:
Example: Feeling nervous about approaching that girl,
Opposite,: Calm, indifferent
Thought: Let me go see what that cute girl is about
Action: Hey what’s up, you're cute, what’s your name.
Example Married
Emotion: Angry and frustrated
Opposite: Cool, Calm:
Thought: Oh my wife loves busting my balls,
Statement: You love messing with me don’t you.
Here is my little tip to recognize these.
We all have our triggers that bring about these emotions, it’s usually a noun…People, Places, things. For example, sometimes my girl can bring me some anxiety and leave me uncertain.
If you have a child suffering from stress with school, it could be the place (school or people).
If you feel anger, it could be your wife or your husband (noun).
So tell me, what’s your triggers…what emotions go with them
What would be the opposite emotion, the following thought,
And then the action…
I’d love to hear from you.
